This page has been set up to report on the progress of the construction of the Second Tyne Road Tunnel and to advise of anything that could affect the cycle routes including NCN 14 & 72
local cycle routes and the Tyne Pedestrian and Cycle Tunnels

February 2008

All trees and bushes in the construction area removed ahead of the bird nesting session.
All the tall conifers on the link route between Willington Quay and cycle tunnel cut down.

April 2008

Phase 1A begins April 22nd to fence in the construction areas and prepare access roads into the work sites.

January 2009

South side :- New access road completed to cycle tunnel entrance / car park.
Work commenced on next phase of the Jarrow Cycleway between bottom of Church bank and Tunnel A19 roundabout.

North side:- the road layout and linking cycle route constanltly changing as work progress but a route is maintained at all times between cycle tunnel and East Howdon.
