For the next several miles the Hadrian's Cycleway follows the old LNER Riverside Branch railway which followed a route cut high up on the riverbank - this line carried thousands of shipyard workers to & from their place of work each day. It closed in the early 1960's. Several of the bridges have been removed and at these points the cycleway dips down to cross the roads. Excellent views can be seen across the river. |
