River Tyne - Blaydon Bridge (1990)

Looking down river from Hadrian's Cycleway NCN 72.

This bridge carries the A1(T) road Western Bypass around Gateshead & Newcastle.
The bridge is in effect two bridges side by side - each carrying one carriageway.
The three spans are balanced concrete cantilevers, a first in Britain.

The bridge was completed ahead of schedule at a cost of £17,000,000

Hadrian's Cycleway uses the promenade along the north bank below the bridge.
