River Tyne - Wylam Road Bridge (1835)

Sustrans Rangers crossing Wylam Bridge

Built in 1835, in addition to road traffic it carried a set of rails for a waggonway.
A toll was levied until 1936 and the toll house still stands on the north west corner of the bridge.
In 1960 the superstructure of the bridge was renewed and widened.

The weir below the bridge is normally the highest point to which tides flow.
