Jan. 2008 - Tanfield Railpath
A new light controlled crossing over the busy A692 road is now in use for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

28/04/2005 Keelman's Way / Derwent Walk Guide notes
Guide notes improved with links to National Cycle Network routes outside Gateshead now linked to sister websites - Hadrian's Cycleway and Three Rivers - at boundaries with South Tyneside and County Durham and the bridges crossing over the River Tyne. This eliminates duplication within the three websites & makes life easier for me !!
These links will open in a new window and allow NCN routes to be followed across the boundary.

24th March 2005 - Keelmans Way NCN 14
It is now possible to cycle along NCN 14 between Swing Bridge and Team Street partly using the new riverside route and partly on existing paths - the new section through the Wimpey Staithes South Bank development is not yet fully complete but is expected to be finished in the next few weeks.

22nd. March 2005 Closure of Keelmans Way NCN 14 at Saltmeadows
Due to contaminated land a section of the Keelmans Way NCN 14 has had to be CLOSED
A detour route will be signposted and the closure is expected to last 3 months while more tests are carried out.
The detour will use Albany Road - Saltmeadows Road - Tyne Main Road - Green Lane and will be signed with Yellow/ Black detour NCN 14 signs
to see Gateshead Council press release explaining the situation.

4th Feb 2005 - High Level Bridge Closure
The High Level bridge will be closed to all traffic from the end of February 2005 for a period of at least 8 months, to allow for complete renewal of the road deck - however the west side walkway will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
(due to discovery of unforeseen faults in the structure the bridge will will remain closed now until 2007)
