Sustrans - the sustainable transport charity - works on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport in order to reduce motor traffic and its adverse effects.

The C2C Guide is a resource centre for the C2C Cycle Route which runs across the north of England, passing through Gateshead on the way to the finish at Tynemouth. Designed to offer newcomers to the route help in planning their
trip it has also grown into the definitive site on the net for the C2C offering
route details, accommodation listings, tips and advice and much, much more

Tynebikes is a voluntary organisation covering Tyneside and around.
Their central activity is as a campaign group, arguing for a better deal for
the ordinary cyclist from local councils. They also hold meetings every
month, run specific campaigns, organise rides and events, provide general information for cyclists through their web site and more.

CTC (Cyclists’ Touring Club) is the national cyclists’ organisation, the UK’s largest and oldest cycling body with more than 70,000 members and affiliates. CTC was formed in 1878 and works for all cyclists protecting cyclists’ rights to use the roads, working for improved off-road access and for better public transport links.

Members enjoy free third-party insurance cover, legal and technical advice, route and travel information and access to more than 200 local groups and national and regional CTC events, plus a free bi-monthly magazine. Membership costs from £16 per year.
