After crossing over the river viaduct - pass alongside the car park / picnic area - turn right and cross over B6314 road then left along the narrow shared use path, (SUP).

For Gibside - National Trust - turn right over river and then next left.

Cross caravan park access road and continue on SUP alongside the A694 road.
After passing garage - turn right at the large wooden gate (with large Derwent Walk sign) - and back onto the railway path.

There are excellent views of the Gibside Estate NT - across the river. the tall column that
can be seen is 121 ft. high and has a statute of British Liberty on the top.

After 2 Kms cross the aptly named "Nine Arches" viaduct high above the River Derwent.

Derwenthaugh Park - Gateshead.

Bear left on to the wide multi-user path passing the "Stone Garden" sculpture (R) and downhill following the sweeping bend of the River Derwent to a stone bridge.

Take care on this fast downhill path - adverse camber and loose gravel !!

Cross access road and join wide off road path between river (R) and A694 road (L).

Pass under road bridge - pass water pipe bridge (R) and stone humpback bridge (R) following the signed NCN 14 route along the west bank of the River Derwent.

There is a route along the east bank between Claverling Bridge and Derwenthaugh Bridge but this is narrow and can be very muddy. There is also a cross river link via the Suspension foot bridge - see Bridges below for more information.

After road salt dump (L) - follow path alongside road and at A1(T) road bridge turn right and left under the A1(T) road viaduct - at T-jcn bear right on tarmac lane around allotments (R) to riverbank. Turn left down stream to pass under the concrete - A1114 road bridge.

Just after the "Express Holiday Inn" (L) you arrive at the Derwenthaugh Railway Bridge and a three way cycle route junction.
