Blaydon to Rowlands Gill
From the junction at the Derwenthaugh Rail Bridge - head up the R. Derwent passing under concrete road bridge and at allotments bear right - follow lane to T-jcn and turn left under the A1(T) road viaduct - jink right and left and continue ahead on path bearing left away from road.
Pass Road Salt dump (R), Stone Hump Back Bridge (L) and under road bridge - ahead on path between river and road to a small access road - cross road through gate and into Derwenthaugh Country Park.
Continue on wide mulit user path - passing tennis courts, picnic areas through gate and skirt the large pond to a stone bridge.

Cross bridge and turn right and follow along river bank then uphill - passing The "Stone Garden" (L) and Millennium Milepost (R) to junction with the Derwent Walk.

Derwenthaugh Park - Gateshead
Turn right onto Derwent Walk (railway path) - cross the "Nine Arches" viaduct and ahead to the end of the railway path.

There are excellent views of the Gibside Estate NT - across the river.
The tall column that can be seen is 121 feet high and has a statute of Liberty on the top. The next section of railway has disappeared and the cutting filled in.
Through gate and left onto Shared Use Path alongside A194 - ahead to junction where bear left on SUP alongside B6314 to crosing point at road chicane.
For Gibside - National Trust - continue ahead on road over River derewnt and first left.
Cross over and then left on shared use path to Stirling Lane, right / left and cross over - go through picnic area / car park to re-join the railway path again - cross the river viaduct and continue ahead.
You now leave Gateshead - Tyne & Wear and enter County Durham
