Wylam Bridge to Scotswood Bridge

Wylam Station to the mouth of the River Derwent is now National Cycle Network - route 141
Starting from the Wylam Station Car Park - pass through barrier in far corner next to rail line - continue alongside the rail line - through another barrier to join path through woods along the riverside.
Keeping to the riverside path, pass golf course (R) and back alongside the railway line again.
At houses, bear left down to river and to join riverside path again.
The Old Ryton Ferry
Ahead through Ryton Willows nature Reserve (2 awkward gates) towards Newburn Bridge, pass UNDER bridge on new riverside route, ahead 1/4 mile then turn right away from river and join disused road to bend in main road. Ahead over level crossing and uphill to traffic lights.
To cross river to north bank and NCN 72 go up ramp before bridge- cross road and use footway on downstream side of bridge - beware road traffic which is controlled by trafic lights.

Cross the road and turn left onto pathway on down stream side of bridge.

Cross river and first left into Water Row

Down river to Newcastle
Cross bridge and turn first right then left
through barrier onto off road cycleway

A new riverside route for Keelmans Way is now under construction. The first phase will see a new track between the railway and the Tyne from Blaydon Burn to then pass through the new housing development. Later when new riverside promenade is completed it will follow the riverside all the way to Newburn Bridge.

At traffic lights turn left onto shared use path (narrow in places but safer than the busy road).
After 1/2 mile at sign to Path Head Mill (R) - turn left down stony track and under the rail line then turn right to join path between river and rail line.

Through barrier into Factory Lane - at T-jcn ( level crossing on right) turn left and ahead into Patterson Street passing through Blaydon Haughs Industrial Estate to the end.
BEWARE HGV's ENTERING / LEAVING FACTORIES ALONG THESE ROADS.
Bear right and join riverside path - under Blaydon Bridge A1(T) and the disused Scotswood Rail Bridge, to join road and under Scotswood Bridge to a signed cycleway junction.

Turn sharp right up ramp and cross over Scotswood Bridge on shared use pathway and cross
Scotswood Road on the large foot / cycle bridge to Millennium Milepost at 5-way junction.

Bear left up river to Newburn Bridge |

Bear right down river to Newcastle |
Continue ahead on access road to Derwenthaugh Marina - cross slipway and keeping to riverside follow wide gravel path to Mouth of the River Derwent.
Turn right through bollards - under low rail bridge to a 3- way junction.
