Tyne Bridge to Friars Goose

 

After passing under the Tyne Bridge - high above you - continue along South Shore Road, passing beneath the Sage Music Centre (R) - HMS Calliope (L) towards the "Baltic" - Centre for Contemporary Art and keep straight ahead on road passing the "Baltic" (L)

There is an alternative route via the "Baltic Square" and riverside promenade around car park to rejoin South Shore Road again.

Cross river link to Hadrian's Cycleway via Gateshead Millennium Bridge
Bear left down vehicle access ramp on to Baltic Square and cross the river to Newcastle

Up river to Scotswood

Down river to Tynemouth

From this point the route passes through several miles of industrial landscape.

Keep ahead to gravel works (L) - turn right uphill then left - passing scrapyards (L) and ahead to end of road. Continue ahead on the new riverside cycle route leading to the "Elephant on the Tyne" venue.
Bear right uphill through car park and bear left to join traffic free path through woods and follow until you reach junction with Nest Road.

The remains of the Friars Goose pumping engine house are located on the large grassy hill to your right.
