From the boundary with South Tyneside - head west up river and at the path junction bear right downhill through the trees along a path high up on the riverbank - pass scrapyard (R) and jink left and right across road into Jonadab Road.
Through bollards and ahead on path to rivers edge and then along rough track to bear left uphill on tarmac path.
Turn left up a steep rough lane (passing stables) and then right (easy to miss) up a steep pathway - through bollards to join Abbotsford Road.

Alternative Route
From District boundary: Continue straight ahead along a wide tarmac path (Pelaw Waggonway) to bus turning circle - bear right to join road passing Wardley Hotel (R) and at X-roads go straight over to end of road and turn right into Bill Quay Farm. Pass through farm keeping left at next path junction.
Through gate and bear right to join Gosforh Road. Follow road to tee junction with Heworth Lane and turn right downhill, then left along a narrow path to rejoin NCN 14 at Abbotsford Road.
