


Tanfield Railway Path


Tanfield Railway
A four mile cycle route between the Tanfield Railway at Marley Hill and Dunston.
This follows the trackbed and inclines of the Tanfield Branch
and includes three inclines down to the Tyne at Dunston.
Sunniside Incline 1:50, Fulgar (Baker Bank) Incline 1:20 and Lobley Hill Incline 1:18.
The Tanfield Railpath starts at the junction of Clockmill Road and Derwent Water Road.
Here it connects with the new Teams Cycleway to continue to the Tyne partly on a signed on-road
route, then a new off-road cycle path to Staithes South bank via an underpass at Askew Road.

Watergate Country Park
The majority of the route is off-road except for a short section in Dunston.

The first section passes through part of the Great North Forest. and includes a sculpture trail.
