Tanfield Railway Path
Tanfield Railway (Marley Hill) to Dunston



Along this section as far as Watergate Country Park there are several sculptures

From the Tanfield Railway car park - head north andfollow the undulating path through trees and scrubland alongside the railway track.

Before Sunniside Station cross the rail track and follow path up to and cross A696 road.

On other side join railpath - passing Potters Wheel PH (L) and begin a steep descent 1:50 (Sunniside Incline) - over next road at Street Gate where the descent steepens to 1:20 (Fulgar Incline) to A692 road.

Continue on railway path into Watergate Country Park and ahead on the path alongside lake (L).

Continue along obvious wide path passing Gateshead Central Nurseries (L) and wide grassed areas (R), Emmanuel College (R) to the B6317 Wickham Highway.

Cross road onto pathway between houses with church (R) and descend steeply the 1:20 Lobley Hill Incline.

At bottom of Incline bear left then right to cross A1(T) road on a foot/cycle bridge, down the spiral ramp and
turn right into Holside Avenue.

 

Follow road around into Rochester Gardens and ahead towards railway embankment - turn right along path to Forge Road.

Turn left under railway line to a roundabout
at the junction of
Clockmill Road and Derwent Water Road and the end of the Tanfield Cycleway

Here you join end on with Teams Cycleway and onto the Keelmans Way
at Staithes South Bank.

There is also a link before second rail bridge up to the cycleway along the old rail embankment and Eslington Park C/way
