

MetroCentre Cycleway



The cycle route runs right around the perimeter of the MetroCentre using Shared Use paths
and is bi-directional. The route is marked with blue shared use signs - as above left.
The ring cycleway is signed to Whickham, NCN 14 Keelmans Way and the Metro Retail Park

Cycle parking is provided at the following locations for the general public.
This is under cover
and also covered by CCTV.
Yellow Mall entrance - 6 places
Green Mall entrance - 12 places
Red Mall entrance - 6 places
House of Fraser entrance - 6 places
Blue Mall entrance - parking next to Blue multi storey car park - 34 places
Additionally there is secure parking in the service yards and at staff entrances for employees.
There are shower and locker facilities for staff comprising 51 lockers, 2 showers and changing facilities. To book these contact the MetroCentre management on 0191 493 0200.

The MetroCentre Cycleway connects to both National and Local Cycle Networks.
Main Link to NCN 14 - Keelmans Way
This leaves the cycleway ring route near the Transport Interchange and crosses the ring road via central refuge to join NCN 14 near the Railway station. Turn right for Gateshead or left for Blaydon.
Note - there is no direct access to Station at present but this is planned when improvements are carried out to the Station by Network Rail.

From GREEN car park
cross St. Michael's Way at the traffic lights then join Cross Lane to mini roundabout.
Turn left and before rail bridge join footway and NCN 14.
Use safe light controlled crossing to join NCN 14 to Gateshead Quays

From the GREEN car park the link cross St. Michael's Way at the traffic lights and turn right to join the traffic free cycleway to Whickham and beyond via the subway under the A1(T) Road - Western Bypass.

From the YELLOW car park follow the signs - through subway into the Metro Retail Park.
note:-
there is no special provision for cyclists in the Metro Retail Park.
