Due to the terrain some steep slopes are encountered on this cycle route down the side of the Tyne valley
This route - shown in RED on map above - follows the Bensham Cycleway from the Gateshead Transport Interchange and diverges at Bensham Road to follow Shared Use / Segregated paths through the housing tower blocks down to cross over Askew Road on the large inclined concrete footbridge.
Following the shared use path along Askew Road and then alongside the Redheugh Bridge slip road - it swings right before passing under the Redheugh Bridge into Tyne Road East then Rose Street to the junction with Team Street / Askew Road West.
Here it connects with the Keelmans Way NCN 14
Keelmans Way up river to Blaydon and Wylam
Keelmans Way down river to Gateshead Quay and Bill Quay
