So, You arrive at Derby's Main Railway Station, Your cycle is safely retrieved. No damage, and you want to cycle out to the city centre? Easy? Well yes, but read these simple instructions and it is easier. Do not exit via the front of the station.

If you came in on Platform 1 then you need to find the steps that take you over the tracks to the rear of the station for that is were you need to be.. If you are on any other platform you must access the bridge to leave the platform. But in either case do NOT follow the signs for 'City Centre'.

A Note concerning Peartree Railway Station

Situated on the main Derby Ring Road, the route to the centre of Derby is busy with traffic. Probably the safe route is to leave the station and follow the Ring Road Easterly to the first set of traffic lights and turn right.(Victory Road). This road will take you past the Rolls-Royce works, but eventualy leads onto Merril Way, do not take the cyclepath.Go straight on with the road to the road junction. beyond this is Boulton Lane which is soon crossed by Route 6 (You will see the traffic control lights) which can then be followed to the town centre.

Signs on the rail bridge
At the Main Station, it is important to follow the
exit sign to 'Pride Park'

At the end of the walkway there will be more steps down , but if you are exiting out of this building shown below, then you will easily find signs for the cycletrack to the town centre. If not then go back and try again, follow the signs out of the station to Pride Park.

Just to the left of the cycle-racks by the exit you will find a 'Cycling in Derby' Map Pedestal.

Rear of Derby Mainline Station

We are not happy about this Exit confusion which we hope will soon be sorted out. See this link to:-

The route you will follow to town centre is shown by the red line below:-

Map of cycle route to railway station

Note that you cross the River Derwent, and then cross back again Via
Exeter Bridge, this leads onto the Council House frontage.
Once there, across the road (pedestrian crossing) is the Market place and there you will find, on the right, the Tourist Information Centre. Cycle racks outside.
Ask for a cyclemap of Derby. At this time they are free, they also show the main street names. A Bargain!
