The National Cycle Network

Discover the UK on the National Cycle Network - 10,000 miles of routes on traffic-free paths, quiet lanes and traffic-calmed roads. The National Cycle Network is co-ordinated by the charity Sustrans, with the generous support of local authorities and other partners.

Every kind of journey is possible, whether cycling to work or to school, making local shopping trips, going on leisure rides with friends and family or undertaking long-distance challenge rides. For more information on routes in your area, please contact our Information team on tel: 0845 113 0065. Alternatively, take a look at the 'Get Cycling' section of our website at: www.sustrans.org.uk where you can browse suggested rides or find routes near you using our online mapping.

Sustrans

Sustrans is the UK's leading sustainable transport charity. Our vision is a world in which people can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. Every day we are working on practical, innovative ways of dealing with the transport challenges that affect us all.

The 10,000 mile plus National Cycle Network is our flagship project and now passes within one mile of half the population. As the Network continues to grow so does its popularity - an amazing 232 million trips were made on the Network in 2005 alone. The routes are free to use and open to all, making them a great way for you and your family to stay fit and healthy while enjoying a breath of fresh air. The project has always been co-ordinated by Sustrans. We've worked with many partners such as local authorities who have been with us the whole way to deliver the routes you use today.

As well as the National Cycle Network, Sustrans is working on Bike It, Safe Routes to Schools, Active Travel, Liveable Neighbourhoods, TravelSmart and other practical solutions to the transport, environmental and health challenges affecting us all. As a registered charity, Sustrans is dependent on funding from a wide range of sources to keep our work going. These include contributions from our tens of thousands of committed Supporters, as well as grants from sources including charitable trusts and companies, the National Lottery, the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, local and central government, Non-Departmental Public Bodies, and the European Union.
