About Me

Retired in 2000 as a Chief Marine Engineer having served 33 years deep sea on VLCC's
(Very Large Crude Carriers).

Completed the C2C ride for the first time in 1999 and again in 2001 - the year of Foot & Mouth.

Journal of my first C2C ride 1999

After corresponding with Dik Stoddart of C2C-Guide.co.uk fame about the C2C route, Dik suggested I became a Sustrans Ranger.

This I did and was assigned the NCN 72 route along the north Bank of the River Tyne between Tynemouth and Scotswood initially.

A few months later I was asked to become a Liaison Ranger and set up a Ranger Group for NCN 72.
This was duly done and my assignment was extended further up river to Newburn and as subsequent new rangers joined even further up river - eventually all the way to Ovingham Bridge - which nicely ties in with the end of the off-road section up the River Tyne valley.

The Ranger group has recently been extended to include National and Regional routes linking with NCN 72 in Tyneside. These include NCN1, NCN14 and Reivers RCR10 - covering from Bylth in the north to Tynemouth to Hexham in the east and Rowlands Gill in the south.

The new group is called STARS
