The "Flimby Gap"
Mile 33 to Mile 37

It is unlikely that the NCN 72 at Flimby will be completed in the near future.

Meanwhile a temporary route - as shown on the Sustrans Hadrian's Cycleway map, offers a safer route avoiding the very busy A596(T) road as much as possible.

The underpass at Risehow (mile 35) can be used but has very low head room (1.25m) and can be very muddy and full of rubbish.
it is hoped to get this improved subject to Network Rail approval.
To avoid this subway continue north on the A596(T) road and take first turning left and follow road passing industrial estate to arrive at the Maryport Harbour bridge over the River Ellen.

The Bikely.com map below shows the temporary route around Flimby and the on-road route onto Maryport.

If you do use the underpass at Risehow (mile 35.1) - on otherside of the railway follow the paved pathway through the sand hills northwards to Maryport Docks as shown on HCW map.
