January - 12th - Bobs Litter Pick # 1
Report & phots by Bob
The litter pick on route 14 (Keelmans Way) in Gateshead went really well. Gateshead council was removing the litter as we collected it. This section of the route 14 is heavily littered as it's in a hollow next to a main road; as a result the litter from the road ends up on the route 14.
Flytipping is also a common problem however it's been much reduced since
Gateshead council blocked access. Unfortunately tyres are still being dumped there.
Angie, Heather, Derek, Jerry, Roy, Tim and John took part and they would like to thank MikeD for their lunch. I would also like to thank MikeD for the gloves and litter pickers which arrived on Friday.

February – 16th - Bobs Litter Pick # 2
Report & photos by Bob
The litter pick took place on the Keelman’s Way in the Teams area of Gateshead. The turnout was fantastic with a total of 18 volunteers taking part. The weather could not be bettered. The sky was clear blue, the wind was light and the air was fresh. The temperature hovered about freezing point but no one felt the cold.

New ranger Danny C has recently been allocated this section and is doing sterling work looking after this inner city route. The task of converting this black spot into a beauty spot is too great for one person however it was not too great for our volunteers. They worked incredibly hard for 2 hours and it resulted in the area looking very presentable. Some might say beautiful. As well as the litter 2 wheeler, 1 computer chair, 1 large pair of bolt cutters and 1 very sharp knife were found. The bolt cutters and the computer chair were re cycled.
Those who took part were:-
Sustrans rangers,
Robert Sorley, Peter Slater, Jill Bennett, Derek Bolton, John Kirkbride, Margaret & Doug Cockburn, Danny Crossley
from the YHA:-
Ken Dickson, Ken Turley, Ghislaine Blaga, Bob Hughes, Dianne C, Roy Lancaster, Jerry Taylor, Angie S

The day was finished off with an excellent meal in Sabatini’s Ristorante. Every one enjoyed the event including new ranger Peter S.

Thank to Mike D for the meal, the extra litter pickers and gloves.
