Shelly Road Clean Up - April 12th.
Sponsored by

Shelly Road is a grot spot on NCN72 and is always litter strewn - after extensive enquiries about who is responsible for keeping this area clean (NCC or OneNE) a satisfactory answer was not obtained.
Therefore in March John Kirkbride approached Warburtons - the Bakers - for sponsorship to clean up Shelly Road outside their bakery at Newburn.
This was agreed upon with Warburtons buying everyone involved lunch at "Breakfast at Tiffeny's" on the day.

Report by John Kirkbride - event organiser.

This was a very effective litter pick which in just over 2 hours managed to fill 2 skip loads of rubbish of all descriptions & a collection of about 20 car tyres.

Despite deteriorating weather the intrepid pickers stuck to their task valiantly & succeded in making a litter strewn verge a lot more attractive.

Eight rangers turned out plus friends & the Warburtons PR rep & his wife. Warburtons provided the skips & paid for our sandwich lunch at Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Many thanks to all who helped - special mentions to Doug who turned out on his 3? wedding anniversary & Sandy who organised the sandwich order & Kenny who cycled all the way from North Shields.
Well done everyone!
