A mini work day was arranged to carry out a variety of tasks along NCR 72 between Willington Viaduct and Benton Road Bridge. A total of nine Rangers took part on a glorious sunny and very hot day.
Gradually everyone arrived and Doug outlined the various jobs and supplied tools etc.
A grneral tidy up began with litter collecting the area around the mile post and along Hadrian Road.
Any overhanging tree branches and bushes were cut back.

John & Lindsay began to paint the Millennium Milepost - bright red.
Doug removed the Time trail disc to take home and restore - this will be replaced later
With work completed around the Milepost we moved onto the "Red Arch" where Phil and Mark did an excellent job in removing the tags and graffiti from the arch.

Another task was to remove a redundant grey sign post next to the Waggonways finger sign post.
This was acheived by brute force and we eventually got it out of the ground - the resultant hole was filled in with earth and cuttings.
The post was placed behind the adjacent waggonways artwork for the council to collect later. The council have been promising for ages to remove this post !!!!

Stuart combined litter picking with baby minding !
Doug applied the missing "Hadrian's Cycleway" wording onto the Waggonways sign posts at the Red Arch and at Segedunum. When the arms were cast the route name was omited - this has been retified by using rub on vinyl lettering (obtained by Doug & paid for by NT). This looks very effective.
Phil has similar "bike"logos to apply on the Waggonways signposts along the Reivers route.
Here the route name and number appear on the fingers arms but not the bike logo which was omitted.

By now hunger pangs had set in and the cake alarm was sounding - so it was off to the the cafe at Segedunum for a bite to eat and a natter. Suitable refreshed we finshed off the short section up to the Benton Way Bridge collecting a small amount of litter, "tags" on the lamp posts were sprayed over and graffiti removed from the large direction sign and Waggonways information board.
With all the tasks completed it was time to head for home.
All in all we acheived quite a number of tasks in a few hours - many thanks to all of you who turned up.
