Reconstructed Gatehouse at Arbeia - South Shields

From Hexham the route is on-road, passing through Corbridge to Ovingham Bridge where it joins the off-road cycle path on the south bank of the Tyne to Hagg Bank, here it re-crosses the river on the Hagg Bank (Points) Bridge (a fore runner of the Tyne and Sydney Harbour Bridges).
Continuing off-road on the Wylam Waggonway on route to Newburn where it continues down river on a mixture of riverside promenades, railway paths and purpose built cycle tracks.
At the Royal Quays - North Tyneside it returns to the road until the Shields Ferry Landing.
After a short ferry trip over the river to South Shields the route is at first on promenade then on-road to Arbeia Roman Fort where Hadrian's Cycleway finishes. There is an alternative finish at Tynemouth.
