Route News

Lemington
The braided route via Lemington is no longer part of Hadrian's Cycleway and all reference to NCR72 Hadrian's Cycleway has been removed from direction signs. Adhesive overlays will be used to blank out wording and redundant route number. It is now Sustrans policy not to have braided routes with the same number as the main route. The cycle route via Lemington will revert to a Local route.

Willington Quay
There has been a small change to the route through Willington Quay - instead of using Eldon Street between Bewicke Road and Howdon Lane - Station Road will be used instead and then along new "bright green" cycle lane on Armstrong Road around to Howdon Lane Toucan crossing.
Long term the plan is to abandon the route through Willington Quay and instead go through the new Hadrian Village estate once the road is adopted by the council.

Howdon Lane to A19 Bridge
Money from the 2nd Tyne Tunnel budget for cycle routes is now being released - the path is the be re-laid along with lighting installed - hopefully this year.

Link route from Tyne Cycle Tunnel to Willington Quay
Work now completed on the new link path and the blue metal fence removed.
Some landscaping remains to be completed.

Coast & Castles Tynemouth / Whitley Bay
Plans are progressing well on this project to re-instate this route along the foreshore footways, promenades and across the Links and the majority of the route should be in place and signed by Spring with the exception of Cullercoats where a 2-way cycle lane is the be installed between the road and the footway - this work will probably be carried outin the year 20XX
