David Barrow, accompnied by members of theTintwistle Brass Band which included Christine Barrow, Stephen & Michelle Barrow, Gary & Christine Lloyd, John Smith & Terry Chappell, rode a short version of Hadrian's Cycleway between Workington and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Day 1 saw us set off from Morven Guest House in Workington picking up the path that runs behind it just before the temporary route into Flimby (mile 33/34), we cycled up the main road and missed the underpass at Risenow. We saw the underpass but didn't think it was the one (left your notes in a bag!), perhaps a sign stuck above it might be useful.
Dougs comment:- it cannot be signed until it is officially open !!
From there we ran the route into Siloth where we stayed at the Nith View Guest House, this was an excellent stop and I would recommend to anyone :- www.nithview-guesthouse.co.uk

Maryport Lighthouse
Day 2 we trundled into Carlisle almost missing the left turn into Marconi road where there is no visible sign when travelling west to east. The only issue in Carlisle was where the path is closed at the end of Strand road (88.5) for the flood defence work, although we did pick up the diversion route reasonable easily.
Day 3 saw us travel from Carlisle to the Old Repeater Station which is at the junction of the B6318 & the road down to Haydon Bridge (129.5), just off the route, again well worth a stay over. This is without the hardest day's cycling and for us was the coldest and windiest!

The Old Repeater Station at Grindon
Day 4 saw us travel from there down into Gateshead where we finished the ride at the Millennium bridge (we did the C2C last year so had already done the last bit into Tynemouth)

Crossing the Gateshead Millennium Bridge from
Hadrian's Cycleway to the finish on Baltic Square
All in all we had a verygood week and look forward to the next challenge
