Mile 173.0
From the South Shields Ferry landing turn left at top of the link span onto promenade and the Riverside Cycleway.

Right and left over bridge at the old drydock to join road - at T-jcn turn left and over another old dry dock and ahead to chicane barrier (cyclists only).

Look for the Galleons in the old dry dock (R) and the "Spirit of the Tyne" statue (L) by the river (L)

Continue ahead along Wapping St. passing the Seamanship and Fire Training Centre (L) and along road which has rail lines imbedded in surface.

Mile 174.0
Where rail lines end at acute junction turn sharp right and uphill to T-jcn.

Turn very sharp left and along road in front of flats, pass through bollards to T-jcn and turn right into Baring Street.

The replica gatehouse now comes into view.

Ahead 200m and turn left into the museum and the FINISH at Mile 174.3
