The links described provide the most direct route with least conflict with traffic and avoids the complex one-way system around the station area.

Link to Hadrian's Cycleway
At present the link route is partially signed using small blue Hadrian's Way signs as above.
Exit the Station and turn left to pass through car parking zone. Join the green on-road cycle lane and follow this around the Centre for Life Buildings (L) keeping left at all sets of traffic lights to tee junction with Railway Street B1300.
Choice of route:-
A/. turn left on Forth Street to pass under large railway bridge. Bear right down Forth Banks.
At bottom of hill turn right onto Skinnerburn Road and almost immediatly turn left (car park entrance) onto the riverside promenade.
B/. Turn right along Railway Street - pass under Redheugh Bridge viaduct and turn left down Redheugh Bridge Road - passing Metro Arena (R) - then steeply down narrow Shot Factory Lane. At bottom cross over Skinnerburn Road to join river side promenade.
On promenade turn left for Tynemouth / South Shields or right for Scotswood / Wylam.

Link to Newcastle Central Station
Follow the link route behind the station which avoids the one-way road system.
At mile 162.7 (just up river from the Blue Metro Bridge) leave promenade and join Skinnerburn Road. Turn right and then left up the steep Forth Banks.
At top - before rail bridge - turn right along Forth Street. (take care when turning right)
Just after the humped Zebra Crossing turn left through the Orchard Street Tunnel.
At junction with Neville St. turn left and after traffic lights bear left into Station entrance.
Note:- The link up Shot Factory Lane is very steep, narrow and full with parked cars.
