Hadrian's Cycleway
Coast to Coast "The Roman Way"

Due to the severe flooding in Cumbria especially around the Workington area and along the Cumbrian Coast NCN 72 is severely disrupted.
The route is severed at Workington due to the collapse of the pedestrian / cycle bridge over the River Derwent.
Many other sections of NCN 72 along with other NCN routes in Cumbria can be expected to be difficult to use and may be impassable.
Therefore it is not advisable to attempt any of Hadrian's Cycleway in Cumbria
until
the exact situation can be established.
This website guide is designed primarily as a resource centre for Hadrian's Cycleway which forms part of the
National Cycle Network - route 72
running
across Northern England between
Ravenglass - Cumbria
and
South Shields - Tyne & Wear
The route is described in both directions from
Ravenglass (Glannaventa) or South Shields (Arbeia)
The alternative start/finish at Tynemouth is included
Hadrians
Cycleway
is a new 174 mile long distance cycle route developed by Sustrans
in partnership with Cumbria

was officially opened on Wednesday 19th July 2006
The section from Ravenglass to Silloth will be officially opened once work is completed, hopefully by 200?
but most of this section
can be ridden now,
as shown on the official Sustrans map.
