Blue signs generally in use in Country Durham and Tyne & Wear

with the exception of:-

Newcastle Upon Tyne

Hadrian's Cycleway is shared with the Hadrian's Wall National Walking Trail between Newburn and Segedunum, Wallsend.
The Cycleway & Walking Trail follow separate routes between:-
a/. Newburn Bridge and Scotswood
b/. St. Peters and Walker

The entire section in Newcastle presently signed as Hadrian's Way using signs with a BROWN background

Follow signs which have both a bike symbol AND a route number 72
Note: the bottom sign shown right indicates where the walking trail and cycleway diverge from each other.
ie. Bikes to the Right / Acorns to the Left

Ignore any signs which only have a bike logo

Sustrans "stick on" signs are extensivly used until new signs are installed - see examples below.

The section of NCN 1 between Sunderland and South Shields is also called the

"Two Rivers Cycleway"


SUSTRANS Signs applied by Rangers to
Waymark the route or to temporarily replace missing signs

Usually fixed to original sign post or other suitable post about head height.
