Starting from Middlesbrough Station exit on the south side into Station Road.

Turn right along Station Road - Marsh Road and turn right under railway line.

Before T-jcn turn left on to path and under North Road - ahead alongside the railway line and follow path towards the River Tees.

Under A1032 road - with Newport Bridge (R) - under A19(T) road viaduct and continue west along the riverbank path - with railway sidings (L) towards the Tees Barrage.

Pass under the Tees Barrage Road and turn right to cross the barrage on the footbridge - on north side bear right and join road and at T-jcn bear right.

Tees Barrage - NCN 1 crosses over using the low level bridge

Where road bends to right, with Hotel (R) join off road path and follow alongside caravan park to Marston Road - bear left on verge path to roundabout at Portrack Lane.

Cross Portrack Lane - with care - and follow verge path alongside Holme House Road - over Lustrum Beck and join railway path passing HM Prison (R) to cycleway junction.
