From the cycle route junction near the HM Prison - continue ahead following the railway path in a big left hand arc - after passing allotments turn right alongside railway line.

Bear right away from railway and into Darlington Lane - before T-jcn turn left on shared use path and use Pelican Crossing over A1027 road - left under rail bridge and right onto cycle path to Rochester Road.

At road straight over into Romsey Road and at T-jcn turn left into ragpath Lane - next right into Ruislip Close and right into Rothwell Cresent.

Follow around and turn left to cross A177 road at Toucan Crossing - right on cycle path passing school (L) and bear left to join Ketton Road.

Ahead and bear left off road passing Hospital (R) to Cornforth Close - left into Tithe Barn Road and after bend - turn left through gap in houses then right to join the railway path.

Continue ahead - over road - under bridge to end of rail path - turn right and follow track leading under A177 road.

At T-jcn - keep ahead to X-roads - turn right and fork left to Fulthorpe.

Fork left again and follow track back to the railway path again.

Continue north several miles and cross B1280 to Station Town.

Ahead on off road path to cycle route junction.

Turn right to Hartlepool

Continue north to Haswell

Ahead passing Shotton Colliery following railway path - under road bridge - to a road crossing.

Continue to Sunderland
