From the Millennium Milpost on the North Pier head up river - passing around the Marina.

Note the many public artworks and sculptures between here and the University.

Pass through bollards and up hill on road - at top bear left onto a shared use path keeping left at each junction in the path and downhill to the riverside promenade.

Continue up river passing The National Glass Museum (R) and the St. Peters Campus of Sunderland University (R) and the Tree Sculpture.

Choice of Route

C2C and Consett via Riverside (low route)

Continue ahead on the promenade and under Wearmouth Bridge.

Turn right and use Toucan Crossings to cross busy road and left and right under rail bridge.
Click sign to continue on NCN 7 to Consett via Stadium of Light.

At lane turn right and ahead to road, left and right and ahead through the Pedestrian Zone.

Turn left on road then right around the "Londonderry" PH and ahead passing the Empire Theater (R) and before dual carriageway turn left into Long Row (pedestrianised) to cross SO at traffic lights.

Turn right through underpass and follow path towards a steel arch bridge - cross bridge and bear right and follow the cycle lane alongside busy road - cross a busy junction with care and continue to follow cycle lane - turn right into Eden House Road and 25 mtrs turn left and cross road to join the railway path to Barnes Gyratory.

Barnes Gyratory System

At Barnes Gyratory cross at Durham Road at the Toucan Crossing - skirt car park and turn right down through an underpass and continue on shared use path up to dual carriageway road.

Cross over and continue on SUP passing Retail Park (L) and Tennis courts (R) up to and cross road.

Continue ahead on tarmac then limestone pathway - pasing through a cutting and between the Tunstill Hill - pass Golf Club House - over bridge and follow track until reach A1018 road.

Bear right and right again into Cliff Road - join shared use path and at Pelican Crossing cross over A1018 road - follow path around and left into Station then Scotland Road towards a red footbridge.

Through barrier - turn right onto railway path and continue ahead on obvious path 2 milescrossing over A1018 to a Millennium Milepost (L)
