This section through Durham can be difficult to follow and not fully signed.
Take care to look for signs and in crossing the various roads that are encountered.

Cross the A167(T) road at the Toucan Crossing and left onto SUP and right into St. Monica Grove.

Follow road around and right into Redmills Lane - next right and follow road steeply downhill alongside tall rail embankment - about halfway down turn right through tunnel under embankment and into Lawson Terrace.

Left into Hawthorn Terrace and straight over at X-roads (traffic lights) - next left into Atherton St.

Watch out for buses from the bus station nearby

Cross road and over Millburngate to riverside - left under A690 - right over river and back under A690 again - follow path up to road and turn left over A690 on SUP - then right down towards the roundabout.

Bear left down through underpass - right under bridge - left and left again back under bridge to join the riverside path.

Follow riverbank path which bears left away from river - at trees turn left uphill and through barrier and turn right onto a lane.

Continue on this lane gradually climbing - turn left at road steeply uphill to traffic lights.

Cross straight over and after pasing Dragonville Industrial Estate (R) - turn right and on to end of road.

Join a rough track passing under the A1 motorway and follow Renny's Lane downhill - under railway line and right up rough path into Sherborne.

Left along Dowsley road - right on Usher Ave. - left on Gray Ave -right on Park Road.

Left into Parkhouse Gardens - turn left passing school (L) - and ahead on Cookshold Lane.

Turn left at T-jcn to Littletown House - turn right passing Pub (L) and follow road 2 miles to join the B1283.

Before junction bear left onto shared use path and uphill to garage - join road and next left at Hasewell Plough.

Ahead to Haswell and at T-jcn turn left on B1§280 - at X-roads turn right - 3/4 mile to intersect NCN 1.

North to Sunderland

Continue south to Wingate and Stockton
