From this point until the finish at South Shields there are no signs to guide you !!!

Ahead on cycle lane and bear left to join segregated cycle path just before junction with busy road.
Pass Alkali PH (L) to traffic lights.

Beware of heavy lorries and car transporters turning left onto slip road in the docks
which crosses over the cycle lane.

Over traffic lights and join on road cycle lane then segregated (SCP) / shared use pathway ( SUP) to busy roundabout.This next section of road can be very busy especially at peak times.

Under rail bridge and bear right to join on road cycle lane again to next Rbt.

Watch out for dock traffic turning left across cycle lane.

Ahead on road and bear left onto SCP to next Rbt - turn left to next Rbt. - bear left - continue ahead on busy road passing warehouses (L) and ship repair yard (L).

Then a short section of cycle lane around the bend - then up & down hill - passing Dolly Peel PH (R) (Good pub for Real Ales).

Pass Magistrates Courts (R) to another Rbt.

NCN 1 from Sunderland joins here from the right.

You can either continue ahead over yet another Rbt. (Right for South Shields Town Centre and shops) and before Alum House PH turn left to the Shields Ferry Landing

Or turn left down to Customs House and right along the riverside promenade to Shields Ferry Landing and the

Choice of Route

South Shields - Middlesbrough via Sunderland and Stockton
Link to Arbeia Roman Fort via Riverside Cycleway
Back up river to Gateshead and Blaydon

Cross river link to Hadrian's Cycleway NCN 72 via Shields Ferry (links to Hadrian's Cycleway website which will open in a new window) Cross the river using the Shields Ferry - single fare £1.00 bikes free.
Up river to Newcastle	Down river to Tynemouth
