River Tyne - Wylam Road Bridge (1835)

View from the north bank looking upstream.

Built in 1835, in addition to road traffic it carried a set of rails for a waggonway.
A toll was levied until 1936 and the toll house still stands on the north west corner of the bridge.
I
n 1960 the superstructure of the bridge was renewed and widened.

The weir below the bridge is normally the highest point to which tides flow.
