Map 24 Map 25

Map 24, care is required at the area marked "A" as this is where the combined W2W / NCN1 cycle route splits into the separate routes. The NCN1 follows the route shown by the red line across a small bridge towards Sainsbury's Supermarket (Toilets and Cafe). Whereas the W2W follows the blue line route. There was a signpost at the marked point "A" but some "kind" person wished to cut it down with a Stihl saw. We have resorted to putting self adhesive signs at this junction "1" for the NCN1 and "20" for the W2W - but these only remain as long as the "youths" let them stay attached to the post. Again, I apologise if the junction is not marked when you reach this point. The area marked "B" there are several other paths (purple) that could be confused with the W2W route, but if you look out for the "20" signs you shouldn't go wrong. The area marked "C" the W2W route crosses North Moor Lane via a central island, take care when crossing.

Map 25, there are several other paths (purple) that could be confused with the W2W route, but if you look out for the "20" signs you shouldn't go wrong. The areas marked "D" are sites of A-frames. They are, I know, quite annoying at times but there is quite a problem of motorcycles, mini-motos etc. using the cycle routes and the A-frames deter them from using the routes, but not with 100% success unfortunately. The area marked "E" adjacent to Farringdon Secondary School, there are some paths that are not part of the "W2W" but if you look out for the "20" signs you shouldn't go wrong. The area marked "F" the W2W route crosses Silksworth road via a pedestrian crossing, it is quite close to a roundabout so take care and give way to the road users. Normally cars are quite good at giving way to cyclists using the crossing though. If you are cycling East towards Sunderland take care as this crossing is at the bottom of a bank, it is very tempting to sweep down to the crossing a bit too fast - so please slow down and be prepared for the crossing. The area marked "G" it is possible to go wrong here, I have received an email in the past of a rider cycling West cycling the W2W route and taking the wrong turning!! The wrong route goes over a pedestrian footbridge over City Way - this is not the W2W route. I have placed a "Not NCN" sign on the railings of the bridge to warn of this. The area marked "H"again you need to pay attention, if travelling Westwards, the route continues past the correct junction. The W2W route crosses City Way by a central island, can have failry fast moving traffic at times in the area of Doxford International Business Park.
